CMUA employs an electronic health record (EHR) to capture and organize each patient’s vital medical information as well as facilitate the fast exchange of notes, test results, and prescription requests with primary care physicians and pharmacists. The EHR also provides physicians with immediate access to medical records, greatly enhancing their ability to treat patients during non-office hours and in emergency situations.
The Columbia Urological Surgery Center, an advanced outpatient facility with a full operating room designed to utilize the most current improvements in surgical technologies, is immediately adjacent to the CMUA office suite. The Center maintains full compliance with life safety codes and national credentialing organizations including the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is urology? Urology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the functions, diseases, and care of the urinary/genital tract in men and the urinary tract in women.
What is PSA? Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by cells of the prostate gland. A PSA test measures the level of PSA in the blood and is used along with a digital rectal exam to help detect prostate cancer in men age 50 and older.
What is urinary incontinence? Urinary incontinence is any involuntary leakage of urine due to a loss of bladder control. A doctor can recommend different drugs and/or surgical procedures that often help alleviate this problem that can occur in both men and women.
What are kidney stones and how are they treated? A kidney stone or renal calculi is a hard, crystalline mineral material formed within the kidney, bladder or urinary tract. Lithotripsy is a medical procedure that uses shock wave treatment to break up these stones. The tiny fragments then pass through the body along with urine, often eliminating the need for surgery.
What is a cystoscopy and why is it performed? A Cystoscopy is a test using a scope to diagnose and evaluate diseases of the urinary tract and bladder.
What are the symptoms of a urinary tract infection? Symptoms vary depending on the part of the urinary tract that is affected. Cystitis can cause painful urination, increased frequency and the feeling of needing to empty the bladder urgently, sometimes with urine leak. If kidneys are affected, there will be pain in the loin and a fever.
