The Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center, a service of Howard County General Hospital: Johns Hopkins Medicine offers hope and support to cancer patients and their families and care givers. The center is designed to assist individuals and families through counseling, stress and symptom management, care planning, system navigation, education, aesthetic services and resource identification.

Support Services: Newly diagnosed cancer patients faced with uncertainty and overwhelmed by new information are often unaware of available services and resources. Our Oncology Social Worker and trained staff helps cancer patients, families and caregivers navigate the array of services needed during the cancer journey. We offer continued support to patients from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Support services include: individual counseling, support groups, wellness classes, patient navigation, and connection to resources including transportation, nutritional counseling, financial and insurance assistance, yoga classes and acupuncture.

Educational Resources: An informed patient can better participate in the treatment process. Educational resources include a full lending library, online computer access to major cancer databases, a comprehensive directory of local and regional resources, informative brochures from the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, ongoing lectures and discussions on cancer related topics.

Aesthetic Resources: Licensed professionals from some of the finest local salons and medical equipment companies utilize our extensive wig and prosthesis inventory to offer comforting professional consultation. Services include: hair and wig styling, consultations and fittings for wigs and breast prosthesis, facials, skin care and massage.

In its new location in the Medical Pavilion at Howard County, the Claudia Mayer Cancer Center is expanding is range of offerings to cancer patients and their caregivers. New services within the center include; acupuncture, therapeutic massage and counseling offered through Healing Point, LLC, Wig and image specialist Bonnie Grauer with Symmetry Hair Studio and access to the resources of other cancer support organizations such as the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults and the American Cancer Society.

The Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center was conceived by Tina Broccolino and Lynne Salisbury and founded in 1998 to honor the memory of longtime Howard County resident, Claudia Mayer who died of cancer at age 47.
